CDC is  UK’s Development Finance Institution, with a mission to support the building of businesses throughout Africa and South Asia, to create jobs and make a lasting difference to people’s lives in some of the world’s poorest places.

CDC was keen to understand the business of e-waste management in India to identify potential areas of investment. For this purpose, CDC hired EMC to conduct the study on the business landscape of e-waste in India.

The study consisted of identifying organizations running business on e-waste collection, disassembly, recycling, and disposal and collecting information on their businesses such as market size, technologies deployed, and estimated returns. A consultation workshop was held consisting some of these businesses, regulators, investors, research, and academia. Outcomes of the study and the proceedings of the consultation workshops were used to come up with an investment strategy for CDC in e-waste management.
