We are a strategic management consulting company established by Dr Prasad Modak in 1996 in Mumbai, India. Over the past 28 years, we have positioned ourselves as a niche player in environmental management consulting across the globe.

EMC’s consultancy services are essentially strategic, knowledge-driven and supported through research and training. In all the consulting assignments, EMC’s expertise lies in harmonizing economic, environmental, and social considerations in business development plans and policy frameworks.
Over the past 20+ years, EMC has conceived, developed and executed a number of national, regional and international assignments that has set several “firsts”. Many of these assignments have stimulated action leading to policy reforms, sustainable investments and led to long term capacity building.
EMC has since its inception completed more than 700 assignments for clients in India as well as overseas. Clients represent national and international governments, corporates, UN agencies and intergovernmental organizations, multilateral development banks, private equity, debt funds, think tanks, and philanthropic organizations. EMC is one of the few Indian environmental consultancy with significant international business. EMC is a policy, planning and strategizing group that brings in multi-disciplinary knowledge and skills.

Our core team consists of experts specializing in environmental science and engineering, health and safety, environmental planning, management and economics, social development, and impact assessment. Most of our team members hold master’s degrees from reputed national and international universities. In addition, few team members hold professional certifications such as ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001, and ISO 14064. Many of team members have worked with think tanks and come with years of practice experience on implementation.
Dr. Prasad Modak

Prasad Modak holds B Tech (Civil Engg), M Tech (Environmental Science and Engg) from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay and Doctor of Engg (Environmental Engg) from the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok.
Dr Modak was a Professor at the Centre for Environmental Science & Engineering at IIT Bombay (1984-1994) and later a Professor (Adjunct) at the Center for Technology Alternatives in Rural Areas (CTARA) (2009-2017). He is currently the Managing Director of Environmental Management Centre Pvt Ltd. (www.emcentre.com) and Director of Ekonnect Knowledge Foundation (www.ekonnect.net). He is also a Visiting Professor in Practice at Grantham Research Institute at the London School of Economics, London, UK.
Dr Modak has worked with almost all key UN, multi-lateral and bi-lateral developmental institutions worldwide. These include the World Bank, IFC, Asian Development Bank (ADB), Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), European Investment Bank (EIB), UNEP, UNIDO, UNITAR, UNDP, DFID (UK), etc and intergovernmental organisations such as the Asian Productivity Organization, Tokyo. Apart from the Government of India and various State Governments, Dr Modak’s advice is sought by the Governments of Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Mauritius, Thailand and Vietnam.
Dr Modak was a member of the Indian Resources Panel (IRP) and a member of the Advisory Committee on G20 India Presidency on Circular Economy at the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC). Currently is a Member of the Task Force on Sustainable Public Procurement at the Ministry of Finance. He also chairs the Product Advisory Committee at the NCDEX on the launch of its Carbon Trading Platform.
Dr Modak has extensively worked on Environmental and Social Safeguards at both Development and Private Financing Institutions, set up Environmental and Social Management Systems for Funds and conducted Environmental and Social Due Diligence for portfolio companies. Amongst his numerous projects with ADB, he worked on ADB’s Safeguard Policy Update (SPU) in 2009 and more recently provided assistance in the ongoing SPU update. He was also a senior environmental and social consultant to AIIB over a year.
Dr Modak has published several journal articles, chapters and books on environmental management. His book on EIA for Developing Countries was published by UN University (1999) and then reprinted by Oxford University Press (2005). Later, this book was translated into Chinese and Japanese. His book “Environmental Management Towards Sustainability” was published in December 2017 with CRC Press of Taylor and Francis Group. His latest book on Practicing Circular Economy for the CRC Press was released in June 2021. One of his recent coauthored publication is Financing Just Transition in India supported by British International Investment.
Dr Modak has received several awards and recognitions; his name has been listed in Marquis Who’s since 2008. He has been recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award of AITAA in 2010 for Significant Contribution to International Affairs. In 2011, Dr Modak was elected by the American Association of Environmental Engineers as Board Certified Environmental Engineering Member for his work in Research, Teaching and Professional Practice. More recently, he was invited to become a member of the Council for Inclusive Capitalism, which hosts the most comprehensive public platform of private sector actions aimed at profitably creating value for everyone. In 2023, he was bestowed a Life Time Achievement Award by the Indian International Conference on Air Quality Management

Why Prasad Founded EMC:
For a person like me who always wanted to be involved in multiple roles and enjoy wearing different hats, EMC was another important “experiment”. However, EMC remained close to my heart. It became my identity. I always looked at Team EMC as if it was a master’s class of students I used to teach at the Indian Institute of Technology. Sivaranjani Subramanian
Chief Operating Officer
Sivaranjani has over 14 years of extensive work experience on energy efficiency, energy conservation conceptualization, Green Building certification, Biomass Gasification power generation, waste management and urban environment.
She holds a Bachelor of Technology Degree in Civil Engineering from NIT Trichy and a Master’s degree in Environmental Planning from CEPT University Ahmedabad. She has been involved in advisory for project conceptualization, due diligence, feasibility, and energy efficiency studies for various industrial projects.
She is also an Indian Green Building Council Accredited Professional and specializes in green building certification advisory. She has been certified by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, India as a Master Trainer for capacity building and implementation of the Energy Conservation Building Code in India. She also holds a certificate for Comprehensive Disaster Risk Management Framework (CDRMF) from the National Institute of Disaster Management.
Sivaranjani has spent considerable time in rural India and has worked with NGOs for livelihood generation, village electrification and watershed development Programmes. Armed with an entrepreneurial passion, she is always on the lookout and encourages starting and implementing viable energy and environment-based projects. She designed, fabricated, and tested a Top-lit up-draft micro-gasifier, launched as ‘Wudare’ biomass cook stoves, a sustainable alternative to LPG cylinders and conventional firewood cooking.
Outside work she enjoys reading and writing poetry and spend time in learning and singing Hindustani Classical music.

Dr. Shilpi Kapur
Vice President
Dr. Shilpi Kapur is a trained economist and has over 13 years of research experience in the field of environment and natural resource management.
She holds a PhD Economics from Washington University in St Louis, USA and before that Master’s and Bachelor’s in Economics from Delhi University. Prior to joining EMC, Shilpi was working as a Senior Fellow in TERI.
One of her key focus areas of research is designing policy instruments and governance and institutional mechanisms to foster circular economy. Shilpi has worked on multiple projects and research assignments for bilateral and multilateral organizations, industry and different Ministries and States in the Government of India on a wide range of issues and has coordinated and managed large, multi-team, long duration projects funded by international organizations such as Department for International Development and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Norway.
Her research has spanned many sectors including plastics, end of life vehicle management, solar PV, tourism, e-waste, and wastewater focusing on policy research, awareness generation and capacity building, and designing business models.
Apart from work, Shilpi enjoys painting Madhubani art, baking and gardening.

Sunil Gangurde
Chief Financial Officer & Head Infrastructure
Sunil has more than 26 years of experience in the domain of Accounts, Administration and Office infrastructure.
Sunil completed his Bachelor of Computer Science (B.C.S) from K.T.H.M. College, University of Pune in 1992. He also completed a certificate course in Web Professional and Macromedia Director Course in Image Academy in 2000 from Mumbai.
Sunil has been with EMC since its inception and has been managing Accounts, Administration and Office infrastructure. Before joining EMC in 1996 as a Computer Professional, Sunil worked in Mumbai and Nasik on several projects related to software for CESE, IIT Mumbai, Crompton Greaves and Prestige Consultants in Nasik.
Outside work, Sunil has interests in sports like Cricket.

Mayuri Salgaonkar
Chief People Officer (CPO)
Mayuri Salgaonkar has diverse experience of more than 23 years. Mayuri is a graduate in Microbiology and PGD in Environmental Pollution Control Technology from Mumbai University. She has done MBA in HRD followed by Certification in Learning and Development Management as well as Instructional Design (L&D and ID).
She started her career in the field of Environmental Pollution Control Technology. Early in her career, she handled documentation related to Environmental Compliances and Pollution Control systems as well as Treatability and Feasibility studies for water and waste water treatment in different types of industry. Further on, she worked in Management Consultancy as a Project Manager, independently handling projects in the Manufacturing, Service and Software industry. As a consultant, she helped clients with Gap Analysis, Documentation, Training, Auditing, closure of non-compliances and guided the companies through the process of certification for Quality and Environmental Management Systems (ISO 9001 and ISO 14001).
For the last 16 years, she has worked in HRD, handling Policy preparation, Talent Acquisition, PMS and Learning and Development. She has also handled responsibility as System Coordinator for QMS, EMS and FSMS, being an internal auditor for all three systems.
Mayuri loves to read about varied subjects – Science, History, Education and Environment to name a few. She is passionate about travelling and listening to Hindustani Classical Music.

Prahlad Tewari
Vice President
Prahlad Tewari is a Vice President at the Environmental Management Centre (EMC) and EKonnect Knowledge Foundation (EKF). He leads the activities in the fields of Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production (RECP), Environmental Social Governance Due Diligence (ESG-DD), Eco-entrepreneurship program, and CSR support for industries and corporates. He has over 23 years of professional experience and has worked as a (Senior) Technical Expert in various European Union Switch-Asia funded projects including “REAP” project on improving Sustainable Consumption and Production in Agri-food processing industries in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, “PROMISE” project on prevention of marine litter in Lakshadweep Sea involving Maldives, Sri Lanka and India and “ACIDLOOP” project on Sustainable Production through market penetration of closed loop technologies in the metal finishing industries in India. Prahlad has also been involved in R&D and field testing of various technologies across sectors.
Prahlad is currently also pursuing his PhD in the department of Energy and Environment from TERI School of Advanced Studies. He holds a M.Tech in Production Engineering from Delhi Technical University (DTU) (formerly Delhi College of Engineering (DCE)), Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and Diploma in Production Engineering. He has also completed a certificate course in Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) in Asia from the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). He has undertaken Training of Trainers (ToT) on Green Public Procurement from the World Bank, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) using SimaPRO, the Implementer Cum Energy Leader Course on ISO 50001 on Energy Management Systems from GEF-UNIDO-BEE and Circular Economy Business Model Acceleration organized by adelphi in collaboration with Deshpande Startups. He has over 12 publications in journals and conferences to his credit. Before joining EMC and EKF, Prahlad was working as a Fellow and Area Convenor at The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), New Delhi.

Vishwa Trivedi
Associate Vice President
Vishwa is an environmental planner and a development professional with 11+ years of experience in Environmental and Social (E&S) Assessments, Strategic Planning for CSR, Circular Economy, Eco-entrepreneurship and Water and Sanitation.
Vishwa holds a master’s degree in Environmental Planning and a bachelor’s degree in Civil-Construction (Hons.) from the esteemed CEPT University in Ahmedabad, India. She is a CII Certified Resource Efficiency and Environmental Sustainability Auditor.
At EMC, Vishwa leads the Environmental and Social Diligence (ESDD) related business and has conducted numerous ESDDs for a variety of sectors pan India that include agri-tech and agri value chain, financial institutions, general manufacturing, healthcare, infrastructure, packaging, waste treatment and upcycling, wastewater treatment and reuse, real estate, renewable energy, and logistics. In addition, she has developed Environmental and Social Management Systems (ESMS) and conducted ESMS audits for organizations across multiple sectors. Vishwa is fully familiar with Indian environmental and social regulations and international reference frameworks such as IFC Performance Standards, World Bank Environmental, Health, and Safety Guidelines, Environmental and Social Framework (ESF) of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and Safeguard Policies of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to list a few.
Vishwa’s field experience also comprises of design and implementation of multiple field surveys across basic services viz., water supply, sanitation, healthcare, education, and livelihoods, liaising with government at local level (city and district level), capacity building and training of field representatives, and progress review and monitoring of development projects as a part of grant management. Armed with this experience, Vishwa contributes to the design, implementation, monitoring, and impact evaluation of CSR projects undertaken by Ekonnect Knowledge Foundation (Ekonnect).
As an initiative of Ekonnect, Vishwa successfully managed a six module one year long virtual course on sustainability, in partnership with National Institute of Industrial Engineering formerly National Institute for Training in Industrial Engineering (NITIE) in India. This pioneering course was the first of its kind that provided training to 50+ participants mainly from the corporates. Vishwa also has experience on creating e-learning modules. She developed six modules on climate risk management for Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH) for urban planners, policy makers and practitioners.
Outside work, Vishwa enjoys reading history and fiction and experimenting with nature and macro photography. She finds her daily Zen in gardening.

Pranav Modak
Renewable Energy & Business Intelligence
Pranav Modak has over 7 years of work experience in the renewable energy industry with an affinity for data analysis and design thinking. He graduated from Washington University in St Louis with a Masters in Energy, Environment and Chemical Engineering. Over the past 4 years Pranav has gained certifications like Project Management Professional PMP), Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and Tableau Desktop Specialist. He uses the skills gained from the certification and his core expertise in chemical, environmental and energy engineering, to improve the operational efficiency of companies. After working in the United States for over 7 years he has now moved to Toronto, Canada. He represents EMC in North Americas. He has in addition set up his own independent consulting business where he is providing business process analysis and product design consulting to CleanTech industries.Our Team
Krupa Desai
Associate Vice President
Krupa is a qualified professional with a strong background in climate change and sustainability. She has a Master’s degree in Climate Change and Sustainable Development from CEPT University in India and a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from SCET, Surat, India. Additionally, she also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Urban Management Tools for Climate Change from Institute for Housing and Urban Studies (IHS), Erasmus University, The Netherlands.
Krupa’s expertise in climate change is further reinforced by her certifications in ISO 14064-1 and 3 for quantifying and reporting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, as well as in ISO 14090 for adaptation to climate change. She has worked at Purdue University in the USA for three months under an international exchange program at EMC on climate change risk assessment for urban areas.
Krupa has a decade of experience in climate change vulnerability assessments and adaptation planning, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) assessments at financial institutions and the reality industry. She has led climate vulnerability-related advisory services and worked on GHG inventorization and decarbonization plans for several industries and cities. In addition, Krupa was in charge for the development of the Urban Ecosystems Management Toolkit (https://the.akdn/en/resources-media/resources/publications/urban-ecosystems-management-toolkit) for Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH). Krupa also assisted in the development of the Green City Action Plan for Melaka, Malaysia that was funded by the Asian Development Bank.
Krupa manages EMC’s business with climate-focused funds, reality funds and serves as a focal point for international firms with whom EMC has Master Service Agreements for the conduct of Environmental and Social Due Diligence (ESDDs).
Outside of her professional work, Krupa is a trained classical dancer and is passionate about art and design while cherishing an affinity for the science of meditation.

Assistant Vice President
Disha has over 8.5 years of work experience working on projects related to Non-regulatory E&S Assessments, Biodiversity and Ecological Assessments, Forestry Carbon Sequestration Accounting, and Capacity Building in Environment, Sustainability and CSR.
At EMC she is involved in managing projects related to Environmental and Social Impact Assessment and Environment and Social Due Diligences as per National legal requirements, IFC Performance standards, ADB and World Bank Group’s EHS Guidelines. She holds a Master’s degree in Environment Sciences from Fergusson College, Pune University, and a Merit Bachelor’s degree in Zoology, Mumbai University, India. She has also in the past, participated and managed multiple community and environment initiatives at not-for-profit organizations. Her experience of both world; non-profits and consultancies help her offer unique perspectives adding value to projects.

Jay Mehta
Assistant Vice President
Jay has almost 4 years of experience in the domain of GHG inventorization and low carbon planning, climate change assessment, air quality and watershed modelling.
He holds bachelor’s in environmental engineering and master’s in environmental management from L. D. College of Engineering, Ahmedabad. During his education, he undertook internships with Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) and Arvind Limited. With particular interest in Air Quality monitoring, modeling and mitigation, Jay was selected by Space Applications Centre, ISRO-Ahmedabad for his dissertation on “Spatio-Temporal Variability of Trace Gases over India using geospatial inputs”. During his internship, Jay also participated in IITM’s SAFAR program and ISRO’s AVIRIS-NG and RESPOND programs.
Before joining EMC, Jay was working on Urban Air Quality Assessment and its impact on the Urban Heat Islands under “Studies for harnessing Remote Sensing for Environment and Climate (SHRESTI)” project funded by ISRO. He has experience as an Environmental Auditor and has also designed Air Pollution Control Equipment for Industries.
He also is an ardent believer in social service and was the founder president of “Advanature Club” in his college. He also loves to play Volleyball and Football regularly and has a taste for adventure sports.

Pranav Bhardwaj
Assistant Vice President
Pranav Bhardwaj has joined EMC as Assistant Vice President with sustainability and ESG practice. He is a Civil Engineer from Thapar University, Patiala and has completed M. Tech. in Environmental Science and Engineering from IIT Bombay. He has consulting experience on projects related to climate change (mitigation and adaptation), circular economy, ESG and healthcare advisory for corporate and multilateral clients. He has worked on WASH, environmental data analytics, development of decision-making tools, agriculture, reporting (CDP & TCFD), policy analysis and implementation advisory, climate change negotiations, and capacity building.
He has managed and executed several climate change advisory engagements as well as multi-geography research to conduct scoping studies, design interventions and create evaluation frameworks. He is involved in business development and developing proprietary methodologies and decision-making tools for project execution.
Pranav is a theatre enthusiast and writes short stories, poems and plays in his leisure time. He is a strong believer of application of performing arts for behavioral change and has created various short films during his academic years. Lastly, Pranav is passionate about Cricket, exploring music, board games and cooking.

Dr. Aditya Gusain
Principal Environmental Specialist
Aditya has 5+ year experience in climate data analysis and hydrologic modelling, environmental and climatic risk assessment. He also has 3+ years of experience on GIS based data assessment and mapping.
His doctoral research work at IIT Bombay focused on assessing perception of risk to hydro-climatic extremes under changing climate for data-scarce catchment. He completed his bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology from Sardar Vallabhbhai University of Agriculture & Technology (Meerut, UP), and a master’s degree in Environmental Science & Engineering from IIT Bombay. His research interests are not just confined to modeling hydro-climatic extremes but other areas of environmental systems as well.
He is into fitness and traveling, especially trekking, and spends his leisure time reading, gardening, and teaching underprivileged children.

Aarushi Dhingra
Principal Environmental Specialist
Aarushi is an alumnus of the University of Maryland, College Park (USA) where she pursued bachelor’s in economics and developed a strong foundation towards sustainable growth and development. Later she pursued a master’s in business administration from TERI School of Advanced Studies focusing on Sustainability & Corporate Social Responsibility.
Aarushi has 4+ years of experience in the domain of environmental and social assessments for a variety of projects across multiple sectors. At EMC, she has been extensively involved in designing and operationalizing Environmental and Social Management Systems (ESMS) for financial institutions and portfolio companies based on International Safeguards (such as IFC Performance Standards, Asian Development Bank’s Safeguard Policy Statement). Sameer has been working in the field of impact assessment, agriculture-water-energy nexus, GHG inventorization, resource efficiency and cleaner production opportunity assessments for more than 4 years now. Some of his recent works are on developing GHG inventories for industries including chemical, manufacturing, oil and gas, and IT sectors, undertaking RECP assessment on water reuse and recycling in textile industries, implementation of decentralized waste management project, data analysis for developing state action plan on clean air.
At Ekonnect, Sameer is actively involved in organizing and conducting competitions and workshops for budding eco-entrepreneurs for capacity building and business advisory. Along with this, he is a key member of a team at Ekonnect that collaborates with corporates and CSR entities to strategize their CSR activities, support during implementation, and monitoring and evaluation. Impact assessment and needs assessment of watershed development projects, sustainable livelihood, and agriculture related projects are other major areas of emphasis.
Sameer has completed his master’s degree in Technology and Development from IIT Bombay, bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering from Pune University, and has been awarded with a fellowship from Tata Centre for Technology Design, IIT Bombay.

Rashi is an Architect by profession with a PG Diploma in Built Environment from Anant National University, Ahmedabad and a Bachelor of Architecture from Dehradun Institute of Technology (DIT) University, Dehradun. She has worked extensively on resource efficiency, circular economy, climate change, and ecotourism. Rashi worked with Development Alternatives for 3 years in the field of sustainable construction. One of the key highlights of her work was the introduction of sustainable construction technologies and training of local communities in Uttarakhand for construction of disaster resilient buildings. Rashi has also given public talks at various organizations showcasing her work around the Western Himalayas. Shubha joined EMC as a Consultant after interning with us for 7 months. She graduated with a B. A. (Hons) in Sociology and Anthropology and a minor in Political Science from Ashoka University. To this end, she is also pursuing a Post-Graduate Diploma in Environmental Law from NLSIU, Bengaluru. Apart from research in a laboratory-based statistical approach, she has written and presented technical papers based on idea proposals and management models at local, national, and international platforms that revolve around water and wastewater management. Environmental Planner
Viraj Joshi is an Architect from KRVIA with a Master’s degree in urban planning specialising in Infrastructure from CEPT University.He has an expertise in sustainable sanitation and waste management. As a part of his recent work, a Directed Research Project (DRP) with UNICEF Gujarat, he prepared an action plan for Faecal Sludge and Septage Management (FSSM) through the Citywide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) plan by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) in the small pilgrim town of Ambaji, Gujarat. His final research work got selected for the 1st Non-Sewered Sanitation Conference 2023 in Johannesburg organised by the International Water Association (IWA).
With a strong foundation in systematic thinking, project detailing and action plan preparation, he has been a part of prestigious projects like Amrit Sarovar Mahotsav, an internship organised by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) & All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) under AMRUT 2.0. He was also a part of the team for the competition Smart Solutions Challenge & Inclusive Cities Award 2022 organised by UN India & NIUA and the team’s work (WoBus: for every woman | for every interaction) was selected in the final round.

Rachana Rokade is an Agricultural Engineer with a Master’s degree in Remote Sensing and GIS in Agriculture and Soils specialisation from Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Indian Space Research Organisation. She has a strong foundation in analyses of remote sensed imageries using software such as ERDAS Imagine, ArcGIS, QGIS, SNAP and ENVI.

Environmental Data Specialist
Saransh has joined as Environmental Data Specialist with a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Geology from BHU, followed by M.Sc. (Geology) from Delhi University. He also holds M. Tech. in remote sensing and GIS with specialization in Geoscience from IIRS, ISRO.
Earlier, Saransh worked as Project Assistant in Monitoring and Assessment of Mountain Ecosystem and Services in NW Himalaya at IIRS. His expertise lies in earth observation, remote sensing, GIS, quantification, reduction / mitigation of hazard and disaster, climate change and resilience, numerical modeling and AI. He holds an e-training certificate on ‘Fundamentals of Aerogeophysical Survey conducted by Geological Survey of India.
Saransh has worked on various projects like flood vulnerability analysis, statistical analysis of ecosystem, displacement and slip estimation of earthquakes, neo-tectonic and study of reactivation history of central Indian tectonic zone, to name a few. Recently, he has worked on quantification of Inter-seismic deformation through strain budget analysis and fault parameter estimation in NW Himalaya.

Divya Shastry
Research Associate
Divya joined EMC as a Research Associate in December 2023. She developed an interest in environmental and climate-related fields after studying similar subject during her bachelors degree in economics. She decided to pursue a masters degree in Economics and Policy and Energy and the Environment from University College London to deepen her knowledge. Before her masters studies. she joined EMC as an intern for 2 months and researched about opportunities and risks in ESG in India for financial actors in the economy. She also has a background on mineral economics and mining sustainability.
She has an interest in corporate sustainability, ESG and sustainability reporting. She wrote her masters dissertation on sustainability reporting in the mining sector, assessing the comprehensiveness and ‘holism’ of the reporting landscape for the sector.
Currently, Divya is supporting EMC on projects relating to circular economy, climate change and corporate sustainability and ESG.
Outside the office, she is a trained pianist and a former piano and music theory teacher. She loves spending her time learning new languages – she has learned French and Korean, and plans to add more languages to the list. She also enjoys travelling, listening to music and photography.

Mayank, an alumnus of IIFM, Bhopal holds a PGDFM and has experience in ESG and rural development. As a Young Professional in ORMAS, Govt of Odisha, he worked on formation and development of Producer Groups and Producer Companies in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha, where he was responsible for resource mapping, facilitating training, funding and backward marketing of rural products.At SIA Pvt Ltd and ESG Book, his work included ESG due diligence of infrastructure projects, ESG data research and quality check. Gaurao Chopade has joined EMC as an Environmental Engineer. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and an M.Tech (Research) in Environmental Engineering from the National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal.Gaurao has to his credit two research publications in peer-reviewed journals focusing on dairy sludge management and resource recovery and is currently working on other knowledge products. Prior to joining EMC, He had worked with Saarloha Advanced Materials Pvt Ltd (Kalyani Steels), a green steel manufacturing company. Where he worked as a cross functional team member in ESG team to identify materiality issues to identify risk and opportunities, reviewed EIA report for expansion project of continuous casting route which is targeted to increase the production of secondary steel by 1 lakh ton in the form of blooms, ingots and bars. Led site assessments and, end to end project management on setting up ETP to achieve ZLD, aligning with the sustainable manufacturing goals.

Mukesh has a total of 10 years of work experience in the domain of administration and accounts. He has been working with EMC for 8+ years managing the day-to-day administration requirement, assisting, and supporting the HR, Accounts and Administration functions of the company.
He works closely with the team to ensure all regular functions are taken care of and the office runs smoothly. He manages the databases and assists on external visits as required. Project Assistant
Mayur has been associated with EMC for more than 3 years and he primarily assists in administrative tasks as well as the field work. He has experience of working on social impact assessment and waste management projects for more than 1 year.
He is a Commerce graduate with intermediate proficiency in software like Tally ERP 9, Tally Prime, MS Excel, Powerpoint and Power BI.
His administrative role at EMC includes library management, travel desk management, digital mapping, archiving, and maintaining a database of EMC’s national and international projects. On the technical side, he has hands-on experience in primary data collection, data cleaning and representation, use of tools like participatory rural appraisal (PRA), ODK collect, QGIS, and google earth. Along with this, Mayur also manages logistics and other arrangements for various events and training programs conducted by EMC and Ekonnect.
Staying fit is what he likes to do during work breaks, as he enjoys engaging in sports activities, rock-climbing, and off-roading. Mayur is a state-level Kho-Kho champion and has co-founded a trekking and hiking company, One Step Adventure.

An industry veteran with over 35 years of experience, Mr. Alok, till October 2018, headed the Nalanda Foundation that spearheaded CSR initiatives of the IL&FS Group. An alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad and IIT Delhi, Alok has steered organizational growth across various group companies at IL&FS, including businesses in the education and skills sectors. Now, a strategic management consultant and a social entrepreneur, he has focused specifically on social inclusion and corporate citizenship. Under Mr. Alok’s leadership, the Nalanda Foundation conceptualized and implemented holistic socio-economic development interventions across the country with a primary focus on livelihood centric programs for income enhancement and improving quality of life. Dr. Ajay Deshpande
Dr. Ajay Deshpande is a senior environmental professional with more than 27 years’ experience in environmental governance, environmental policy and planning and urban and industrial environment management. Presently, Dr. Deshpande is working with Asian Development Bank as a part time Member of its Compliance Review Panel and is responsible for ensuring that the ADB financed projects are strictly following environment related ADB norms and procedures. He is a former Expert Member, National Green Tribunal (NGT), India (2013-17) that is only third dedicated environmental justice delivery system in the world, responsible for original, special and appellate jurisdictions in the matters related to environment. He has worked with environmental regulator, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB). Currently, he is an Adjunct Professor at IIT- Mumbai and is involved in academic activities at several reputed institutions. Dr. Deshpande is also a member of several committees on environmental governance and research of State and Central government. He has a 360-degree experience of working in various capacities such as consulting organizations, regulatory institutions, development organizations and agencies dealing with environmental review/justice.Our Team
Dr. Bindu N. Lohani
Dr. Lohani has several years of experience and expertise in infrastructure projects, development, and financing (clean energy, transport, urban and water sectors), sustainable development and sustainability issues, especially in environment and climate change matters. Presently he is serving as the Global Head of Climate Change Practices and Distinguished Fellow, Emerging Markets Forum, The Centennial Group, USA. He is a distinguished Adjunct Faculty and a Board Member at the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok. Dr. Lohani is a senior advisor to Network among Cities and Private Sector for Asian Smart Cities and member of the Board of Trustees at Institutes of Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) in Japan. He is a Founding Board Member of the Asian Water Council, Korea and Chairman of the Board for Clean Air Asia, Philippines. He is also a part of Sustainability Advisory Council, Ingersoll Rand, USA. Dr. Bindu N. Lohani was Vice-President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for Knowledge Management and Sustainable Development until June 2015. Prior to that, Dr. Lohani was Vice-President (Finance and Administration) of ADB. He was the Secretary of ADB Board, Director General of Regional Sustainable Development and Chief Compliance Officer. Dr. Lohani is an elected member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) of United States, a Diplomate of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers. Prof Dev Niyogi
Dev Niyogi is a Professor at Purdue University with Joint appointments in Department of Agronomy and Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences. He is also associated with Division of Ecological and Environmental Engineering (Courtesy), West Lafayette, IN, USA. He has been the former Indiana State Climatologist (2005- 2018). His research seeks to significantly contribute to our understanding of the Earth system, particularly the urban and agricultural landscapes, and the dynamic role of coupled land surface processes on weather and regional meteorological extremes. A total of 11 Ph.D. and 16 MS students have graduated with Dr. Niyogi in capacity of advisor or co-adviser. Dr. Niyogi has coauthored over 200 papers for peer-reviewed international journals, 18 book chapters, and over 150 conference proceedings or abstracts for professional conferences such as the AMS and AGU annual meetings. His work has been highlighted in various media outlets including in the popular press such as Yahoo!, MSNBC, Wired, CNN, LiveScience, National Geographic, Tedx Talk, NASA press releases. Girish G. Sohani
Mr. Girish has an extensive experience of over 40 years’ experience in Natural Resource Management and Rural livelihoods. He holds a Bachelor of Technology degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Bombay alongwith a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management from IIM, Ahmedabad. He has been associated with BAIF Development Research foundation (a national level organization working on rural development and applied research with over 5 million families in 12 states of India), initially as President & Managing Trustee (2009 – 2021) and currently as Principal Advisor and Trustee (w.e.f 2021). He is now also a member of the Governing Boards of BAIF Development Research Foundation and its Associate organizations, and several other development organizations. Alongwith with this, he also been Independent Director, Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited (MKCL). 2019 onwards. Previously he was involved in Institutional Development of BAIF into a multi-sectoral development organization and as a Resource Institution. He also served as an expert on various Committees of State and Central Government, NABARD, National and International Agencies. Suhas Tuljapurkar
Mr. Suhas is a practicing lawyer with over 37 years of experience and is renowned for the application of game theory to litigation strategies. He is authorized to practice law in India as a member of Bar Council of Maharashtra & Goa. His main area of expertise is Governance, Risk, Assurance, Compliance and Ethics (GRACE) with a fusion of information technology. In his efforts towards sustainability, Mr. Suhas has worked in drafting corporate policies that formed part of the National Voluntary Guidelines that subsequently became the Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reports. In association with UN Global Compact network of India, he was instrumental in developing IT enabled solutions for transparently tracking mandatory and discretionary obligations of local bodies under the SmartCity mission of India. He has developed IT enabled solutions on (a) SDG Goals, Principles and Actions (b) CSR Obligations (c) IFC Performance Meters (d) Equator Principles and (e) GRI Reporting. He has advised various companies in preparing Stakeholder Engagement Framework from ESG perspective and has helped finalize their Business Responsibility Statements. During 1985-87, Mr. Suhas worked on various environmental issues arising from the Bhopal Gas Tragedy. With his background in Statistics, Chemistry and Law, he worked in providing models for quantifying the corporate liability of MNCs in the wake of a disaster. The report prepared by Suhas in association with ILS Law College and its students was globally recognized and published in various journals. He worked, supported, and provided legal research with a focus on comparative law studies and analysis to national consultative committees that introduced Environmental Impact Assessments under the Indian legislations. Suhas provided research and support during the Asbestos Prohibition litigation in India as a part of the public action group’s efforts on Occupational Health, Safety and Environment. During the period of 1985-88, Suhas worked on developing a computerized database of the Supreme Court’s judgments on environmental matters. Ms.Archana is a Globally-recognized, Senior Leader demonstrating almost three decades of rich experience in fundraising, investing and nurturing investments through 4 different economic cycles, plus carving exit paths. She holds a Master’s degree in Economics from University of Economics alongwith a PhD from University of Pittsburgh in Finance. Over the last 20 years specifically Ms. Archana’s work has been mainly focused on private equity wherein she was involved with 14 funds, 160+ investments with an aggregate capitalization value in excess of US$ 15 bn, 109 liquidity events, 70 fully exited investments. Notably, she is India’s first private equity fund manager and developer of infrastructure projects to raise a fund from international investors. Instrumental in growing that business from 1 fund to over 14 funds cumulating into a US$3.5 bn practice across 3 verticals: growth private equity/venture capital, infrastructure private equity and real estate private equity. Principal Consultant
Shantanu has over 27 years of work experience specializing in Environmental and Social Governance (ESG), Sustainability, and Policy and Strategic Planning. Alongside the core domain he has extensive work experience in Industrial EHS Management, Waste Management, and GHG mitigation strategizing.
Multi-disciplinary work and multi-sectoral exposure are his key strengths which he utilizes in developing rounded solutions that assists in improving sustainability performance of the businesses and also leverages for policy research and strategic planning. He has also served as an Assessor for EHS regulatory compliance assessments covering Indian requirements, conformance assessments to ESG Safeguards (such as IFC Performance Standards, Codes of Conducts of international investors) and supply chain audits.
Shantanu’s expertise as a Consultant, Resource Person and Communicator has been utilized by various multi-lateral, and bi-lateral developmental institutions. These include the World Bank, IFC, UNEP, UNIDO, etc. and intergovernmental organizations such as the Asian Productivity Organization, Tokyo. Besides, Shantanu routinely has been involved with financial institutions and Corporates for assessments, strategic solution / system development and implementation support in ESG and Sustainability. Besides India, he has worked in multiple countries, mostly the LDCs, and the developing countries.
He is a chemical engineer, with post-graduation on Industrial Pollution Prevention and Control. Tapan Wagle
Senior Associate
Tapan Wagle has an extensive experience of more than 30 years in the field of Environment, Health and Safety which includes implementation of Environmental and Occupational health & Safety Management and Integrated Management Systems. He specializes in EHS due diligence, focussed EHS Legal Compliance Audits and conducts EHS training for basic effluent treatment plant design and establishment and enhancement of EHS Management Systems and safety culture and behavioural change.
Tapan obtained his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Mumbai University in 1987, followed by a master’s in environmental engineering from M.S. University of Baroda in 1990. In addition, he holds an Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety in 2001 from Maharashtra State Board for Technical Education. He has completed Lead Auditor Course conducted by LRQA for ISO 14001 in 2000.
Since late 2004, Tapan has been working with EMC initially as a senior associate and subsequently as a retainer, for EHS management and integrated management systems and conduct of corporate EHS audits especially of multinational companies and diverse infrastructure projects funded by Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs).
In addition to supporting EMC as a retainer, Tapan is currently the Director at TA&P EHS Consultants Pvt. Ltd and has been involved in assignments on product safety, wastewater treatment plant evaluation and EHS legal compliance and management system audits. He is a visiting faculty in subjects related to EHS Management in reputed B-Schools like NMIMS and JBIMS in Mumbai. Tapan has previously worked in the capacity of Environmental Engineer, Project Engineer and Principal Environmental Engineer in contracting and consulting organizations, viz. KEC International, Environmental Engineering Consultants, Humphreys and Glasgow Consultants and Market Trends Pvt. Ltd. During this period, he was involved in design and detail engineering for number of industrial wastewater treatment plants, sewage treatment plants, storm water systems, environmental due diligence audits and environmental impact assessments. He also worked for Owens-Corning (India) Ltd. initially as Manager – Environment and subsequently as Sr. Manager – Environment, Health and Safety. In the latter capacity he was responsible for the EHS performance of the company and rolled out various initiatives like integrated QEHS management systems, behaviour based Safety, industrial hygiene and ergonomics programs, championing EHS six sigma projects, pollution prevention and injury prevention measures, EHS audit programs and EHS legal compliance.

Rohit Pansare
Senior AssociateRohit is an Independent Consultant, trainer and researcher with over 11 years of experience in the environmental planning field in the government and private sectors. He has extensive experience in conducting Environmental Impact assessments and Biodiversity surveys for infrastructure projects with reporting in line with IFC and ADB standards. He also is interested in geospatial applications for environmental conservation, impact assessment and biodiversity mapping. He is well-versed with various geospatial platforms like Q-GIS, ArcGIS and Google Earth Engine.
Rohit has been involved with several institutes as a visiting faculty covering subjects ranging from GIS-RS using QGIS, Google Earth Engine, biodiversity assessment, environmental impact assessment, environmental law and disaster management. He has participated in national and international interdisciplinary workshops on climate change, water accounting (WA+), green infrastructure and environmental assessments.
He is trained in land use and land cover change modelling with Google Earth Engine, species distribution modelling with R and MaxEnt and has completed certificate courses in Ornithology and Field Botany.
Since 2018, Rohit has been working as an Independent environment and biodiversity professional, supporting EMC in conducting Environmental Impact Assessments, Environmental Due Diligence, specialising in Critical Habitat Assessments for renewable energy and applications of Geographical Information systems and Remote sensing tools.

She has completed Construction Safety Course from NSC through e-learning portal, and Industrial Training in advances in water and wastewater treatment technologies conducted by UGC as well as on Vermiculture conducted by Rajiv Sinha, Griffith University. She has expertise in Environmental Engineering, ESIA, EHSSMS, EHSS Audits for Infrastructure Projects, Environment Clearances (EC) for infrastructure Projects and relevant clearances for renewable sources projects. With a strong foundation in EHS and CSR, she has experience with diverse International Funding Agencies for EHSS compliances. She has worked on prestigious Infrastructure projects like Road, Port, Power Plants, mines/resources.

Prashant is an Environmental Professional with 37 years of hands-on experience in Environmental Pollution Control and Governance.
Prashant holds masters in Inorganic Chemistry with specialization in Control and Analysis of Pollutants and is a qualified safety professional.
Prashant has worked on obtaining environmental clearances and consents/ permits and ensure environmental legal compliance. He is well versed with compliance requirements of national and international lenders. He has expertise on environment and sustainability related risk assessment and mitigation planning, due diligence for mergers and acquisitions. He is also highly acquainted with international disclosures like Global Compact, Global Reporting Initiative and Carbon Disclosure Project.
As Head of Corporate Environment and Climate Change department of The Tata Power Company Ltd., Prashant has hands on experience of environment management in thermal, hydro and renewable generation, transmission and distribution segments. He was designated as Chief Sustainability Officer for Tata Power’s Mumbai operations and his role included overseeing environment, safety, and risk functions.
Prashant was actively involved in various beyond compliance initiatives of Tata Power, like carbon capture using sea water algae, marine studies for coastal projects and hot water recirculation studies for thermal power plants. He was involved in Project Sanjivani to quantitatively estimate carbon storage in the large-scale plantations carried out in hydro catchment and prepared Biodiversity Strategy for a hydro station in Georgia.
Currently, Prashant is associated with Mumbai University as Visiting Faculty for its master’s course in Sustainable Development and Environment Management.

Senior Associate Prof. M.V.Ashok an Agribusiness Professional, retired as the Chief General Manager of National Bank for Agriculture & Rural Development (NABARD) in July 2017 after 37 years of development banking service having been with the Reserve Bank of India and Canara Bank also earlier. A Postgraduate in Agriculture, Mr. Ashok is from the 1980 batch of Indian Agricultural Research Institute New Delhi after a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture from the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University Coimbatore (1978 batch) with additional qualifications in General Management, Human Resources Development & Training & Development. He has also done a special course on Agri-Business Management from Cornell University, USA as well as on Financing Micro Enterprises from the Institute of Development Studies, University of Reading, UK. Currently he holds the position of Senior Adviser of a large Pune based national level NGO – BAIF Research & Development Foundation. Earlier he was an Adjunct Professor for School of Agribusiness Management, MIT World Peace University, Pune and a Visiting Professor at College of Post Graduate Studies Shillong with the Central Agricultural University Northeast. He was also an Adviser in Agriculture domain to Aditya Birla Group as well as Dr. Reddy’s Foundation and several NGOs and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) promoted by them. He has been a Mentor to about a dozen agri startups. The learnings got therefrom have been used to author his book “Emerging Trends in Agricultural Marketing in India” which was released in 2021. Mr. Ashok has considerable exposure in NABARD to collective farming models beginning with the Farmers Club Scheme from 1985 onwards to the introduction of the FPO model from its inception from the late 1990s. He has been associated with sustainable development programmes for rural communities and has associated himself with several corporates in choosing appropriate development programs for implementing agribusiness projects using CSR funds and in helping choose implementing partners like NGOs in the project area for supporting FPOs. He is a Certified Energy Auditor registered with BEE India, Accredited LEED AP professional, USGBC, and a Certified Lead auditor ISO 50001 for energy management systems. Dinesh’s expertise and experience cuts across multiple sectors including retail, hospitality, corporate office, hospitals, commercial buildings, and the industrial sectors. Dinesh has conducted energy efficiency audits and assessments in over 300 units including various industrial sectors, commercial buildings, logistics sector, hospitality sector, hotels, air force stations and office buildings primarily in India. Prior to working independently, Dinesh started his career with Hindustan Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (HPCL) for a brief period. Avinash Patkar
Senior Associate Dr. Avinash holds over 25 years of experience and expertise in setting sustainability goals on CO2, energy and water use and solid waste, primarily for Tata Group (Tata Beverages, Tata Chemicals, Tata Motors and Tata steel). Dr. Avinash holds a MS and PhD in Chemical Engineering from University of Cincinnati, Ohio, United States. He has completed his Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering from Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, India. He also holds a P.E. in Chemical Engineering Certification from the State of Ohio. Dr Avinash is currently working as Senior Process Engineer with CarbonQuest, Spokane valley, WA. Prior to this, he held the position of Vice President for US Projects with Carbon Clean Solutions and provided advisory on CO2 capture system design and CO2 reuse. In this capacity he supervised testing at National Clean Carbon Center in Wilsonville, AL (10 tpd CO2), the Technology Center Mongstad in Norway (250 TPD). Dr. Avinash has reviewed over 140 patents from Aker, BASF, Compact Carbon, Carbon Solutions, DOW, ExxonMobil, Fluor, and Shell, Summarized major ideas on heat integration and CO2 solvents and promoters. Dr. Avinash also developed sustainability strategy for Tata Group companies with focus on energy, emissions, water use and solid waste. In each area, he developed quantified goals and provided technical support to five major companies to achieve them: Tata Beverages, Tata Chemical, Tata Motors, Tata Power and Tata Steel. He reviewed more than 100 emerging technologies in renewable area and short listed two solar and one wind technology for seed funding and hosting pilot plants As a Chief Sustainability Officer for Tata Power, he set sustainability goals for carbon, energy and water intensities with world-class targets. He led two teams of Tata Power executives to Cambridge U for 1-week sustainability course. He Conducted 25 workshops to motivate fellow employees on sustainability goals. Dr. Aditi C. Kapoor, Director, Alternative Futures Consultancy Private Limited, a sister company of Alternative Futures Trust, is a social scientist with over 30 years experience of research, policy engagement, andragogy and communication. Her core expertise lies in sustainability issues – climate change and socio-economic development, ecological resilience and vulnerability and capacity assessment – with a strong focus on climate and gender justice. Aditi has specialised in evidence-based policy research and analysis, developing and managing programmes, monitoring and evaluation and building capacities on climate change, disaster risk reduction, livelihoods and media of different actors. She has also contributed to developing university-level curricula and teaching. Her doctoral thesis on gender and climate change adaptation, based on primary farmer-level data from flood, drought and cyclone-prone areas in India, explores the inter-linkages between policy, practice and investment for a climate-just and gender-just transition to organic agriculture. She has experience of working across sectors – media, non-profit, government and corporate.
Aditi began her career as a full-time journalist with The Times of India and has since worked with Oxfam GB, the Red Cross Climate Centre and the Red Cross Federation. She has contributed to environment and climate action plans of the Indian environment Ministry and several State governments. taught as guest faculty in several universities and consulted with multilateral institutions such as the Asian Development Bank and CGIAR; UN agencies like the UNDP, UNFPA, UN Women, WFP and UNICEF; non-profits such as Aga Khan Foundation, Oak Foundation, Heinrich Bol Foundation, Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN), American India Foundation and the IDRC, Canada; as also several grassroots organisations including he Self-employed Women’s Association (SEWA).
