I have always been someone who has looked up to exciting work, and the bandwidth to deliver more than promised. EMC had been the perfect catalyst for my growth as a professional in the domain. My journey in EMC started with the sheer desire to work with a stalwart like Dr Modak, but in the process, I was able to connect with many colleagues, peers and clients of great repute and work ethics. EMC has always been a tight knit group of highly motivated people who are like family. I learnt the importance of forming and nurturing long term partnerships by being innovative and delivering above the expected. I also got the opportunity to unleash the "teacher" in me by being a trainer with Ekonnect. I got the opportunity to be a part of the team responsible for carbon and climate related projects at EMC. My participation in ISO 14064 helped me being abreast with the domain and develop my skills to handle those projects. I'll always cherish my time at the EMC as the most formative years for me as a professional and as a human being.

Dr. Prasad Modak

Dr. Prasad Modak

Managing Director – Environmental Management Centre Pvt. Ltd.

Director – Ekonnect Knowledge Foundation

Dr. Prasad Madhav Modak has spent four decades at the intersection of environmental science, policy, finance and practice — not as an observer, but as an architect. The arc of his career is unusual in its coherence: eleven years as full-time faculty at IIT Bombay’s Centre for Environmental Science & Engineering (1984–1995), shaping a generation of India’s environmental engineers; then three decades of advisory practice across 35 countries, translating that academic rigour into institutional frameworks, policy reports, and on-the-ground implementation that outlast every engagement. He holds a Doctorate from the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, the B.Tech and M.Tech from IIT Bombay, and completed the Stanford Seed Transformation Program in 2025.

He founded Environmental Management Centre (EMC) in 1996 and has built it, over nearly thirty years, into a respected specialist advisory practice working with the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, IFC, AIIB, European Investment Bank, UNEP and bilateral agencies across India, Bangladesh, Egypt, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Mauritius, Kenya and beyond. He is currently Visiting Professor in Practice at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change & the Environment, London School of Economics, and previously served as Senior Environmental and Social Development Specialist at the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (2022–2024). He is also a member of the Steward Council for Inclusive Capitalism, a founding member of the Indian Green Building Council, and a Board Certified Environmental Engineer of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers.

Alongside his practice, Dr. Modak has sustained a parallel life as a writer. He is the author of five books with CRC Press and Oxford University Press — including Practicing Circular Economy (2021), Environmental Management Towards Sustainability (2017), and the forthcoming ESG Nexus: Silo to Synergy (CRC Press, 2026). He also co-authored the seminal EIA textbook for developing countries (OUP/UN University, 1999, translated into Chinese and Japanese) and authored or chief-edited four UNEP flagship reports, including the Global Status Report on Cleaner Production covering 72 countries (2002) and the Asia Waste Management Outlook (2016–17). His blog at prasadmodakblog.com, running since 2014, with 500+ posts is read widely across the sustainability, finance and policy communities. Four essay collections have been published from the blog, including a Marathi-language edition, Kaleidoscope.

In 2012, Dr. Modak founded Ekonnect Knowledge Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to building sustainability awareness, education and eco-entrepreneurship across India.
