Coastal Gujarat Power Ltd. Generates 2000 megawatt of power located near Bhuj in Gujarat. In the neighboring area there is the Adani power plant which also gave out emissions from stack, coal and other sources including construction and transportation activities. Asian Development Bank, the initial funders of the project were receiving complaints about violations of particulate matter norms. ADB contracted EMC to investigate the related contribution of these violation or source apportionment. EMC used advanced techniques of statistical analysis – especially correlation coefficients – and applied the technique of Non parametric wind regression – used first time in India – to identify the sources. EMC then used modelling techniques including a sophisticated model called ADMS.

All of this helped in producing conclusions which helped the management of CGPL to decide the focus of particulate emission reduction and also helped ADB to understand the relative contribution between different sources.
