Projects financed by the Bank between FY 90-97 were reviewed. Areas requiring further attention were identified, and recommendations were made to improve the effectiveness of the EA. This project was a first of its kind, not just for India, but for the World Bank itself. Following the publication of the report, the framework developed was used by the WB to conduct assessments along similar lines for South-East Asian countries such as Philippines and Indonesia. The recommendations ultimately enabled capacity building at the Ministry of Environment and Forests (India) and also influenced the modernization of the EA process in India
