NEW: Hybrid Training and E-learning

Training and Capacity Development are key areas in Environmental Management given its multi-disciplinary nature, intersections with business and governance and rapid evolution of the subject in the recent decades. While academic programmes provide foundation to the core areas in Environmental Management, the courses often do not reflect frontier areas and implementation experience. At the same time, continuing education programmes in Environmental Management for managers, planners, administrators and regulators are awfully scarce, not well targeted or structured to meet the needs.

EMC is launching Multiplatform and Hybrid programmes with effect from Janauary, 2008 to address this gap, designed for both individuals and organizations. The courses will run through different models and provide range of options to the course registrant.

As an illustration, a four week course will be offered on Business and Sustainability. A two hours video conference based session will be conducted and beamed at multiple locations on Thursdays or Fridays. This session will be followed by assignments that will be carried out by course registrants until next Thursday/Friday. During this period, all course registrants will get access to a specially designed E-learning website of EMC where PowerPoint presentations can be viewed, quizzes undertaken and lateral reading resources can be accessed. The assignments given will be customized to the course registrants/organizations profile, context and the needs. Webinars will also be conducted in the mid of the week and provided through Internet. The course will thus use multiple platforms, blend 'learning while doing'. At the end of fourth week session the course registrant will have – understanding of integration of business and sustainability; acquire skills and tools to apply/mainstream; contribute to the organization by preparing a blueprint or monitor/review and build a capacity to expand further using the resources provided.

The topics proposed under this series and structure include Integrated Management Systems (ISO 9000/14000/OHSAH 18000); Green Productivity/Cleaner Production; Integrated Environmental and Social Assessment, Business and Sustainability etc. Some of these courses will be designed and conducted in partnership with various national and international agencies.
